Having abandoned the deadly politics of faerie for a quieter life in Los Angeles, Meredith Gentry must confront a new darkness when a series of brutal murders prove that even the immortal are not beyond evil's reach---in this propulsive Merry Gentry novel.

Meredith Nic Essus, princess of faerie, also known as Merry Gentry, a Los Angeles private investigator, has lived a life steeped in royal intrigue, betrayal, and the duty to bear an heir in her quest for the throne. Ultimately, she turned her back on crown and court, choosing exile in the mortal world with her beloved Frost and Darkness.

But though she rejected the monarchy, she will not abandon her people. When a series of brutal murders targets the fey in Los Angeles---killings that mortals should not be capable of---Meredith and her guards are drawn into the investigation, even as suspicion falls on powerful figures like Gilda, the Fairy Godmother of Los Angeles, her rival for faerie allegiance in the city.

As if that weren't enough, humans she once healed with magic begin performing miracles of their own, sparking fear and accusations of forbidden sorcery. Meredith hoped to leave behind the bloodshed and politics of faerie, but she soon learns that evil crosses all boundaries---and that even the immortal are not beyond its reach.
