When we consider the cross that Jesus bore for us, is there anything requested of us that compares? There is not! Oftentimes, we struggle to give more of our time, talents, and treasure. We complain when our corporate worship services inconvenience our planned activities, or the Holy Spirit brings us into conviction concerning our reasonable service to our Heavenly Father. Yet, none of these things can ever compare to Jesus laying down his life for us.

Our discipleship cannot be a matter of convenience but a matter of conviction. It is a matter of the heart, one that correctly sees the Lord high and lifted. What a pleasure to serve such a majestic and omnipotent King. It is my pleasure to lay down my agenda for all that he has done on my behalf. It is my pleasure to serve his people and represent Him and His Kingdom on earth. "Not my will, nevertheless but thine will, be done." (Luke 22: 42)

My prayer is that the Holy Spirit will speak to you as you read The Cross of Discipleship, and that you will journal through the conversation and journey. You may also be prompted to set both short and long-term goals to grow in your discipleship. Journaling these goals will provide the needed accountability, especially if those goals are personal in nature. That is my challenge to you: Make it Personal!
