Klappentext
The expressive paintings of Andriu Deplazes are defined by psychedelic hues in which the artist builds a surreal world. His motives are human and nature, and the almost nude, androgynous figures appear, usually proportionally warped, as mere, hairless covers. Nature in the form of deserts, marshy landscapes or all-consuming primeval forests appears repellent, while civilization, technology or culture are completely absent. The gap between man and nature is dominant.Alienation, death and apocalypse are more present than the Garden of Eden, although the images play with this iconography. Deplazes quotes art history and composes his paintings in symmetries and poses based on well-known classical images.
The catalog is published in connection with the artist's solo exhibition at the Bündner Kunstmuseum Chur and the award of Deplazes with the Manor Art Prize Chur 2019.
