Klappentext
Osteoarthritis is one of the most widespread joint diseases in the world and affects people of all ages. It leads to chronic pain, inflammation and restricted movement, which significantly affects the everyday lives of many sufferers. While traditional therapies have so far mainly been limited to alleviating symptoms, osteoarthritis treatment has undergone a profound change in recent years. New scientific findings have paved the way for a variety of innovative therapeutic approaches that go beyond mere pain reduction and aim to influence the course of the disease and promote joint regeneration. This book is dedicated to the latest advances in osteoarthritis research and presents the most exciting new treatment methods comprehensively and in detail. Readers will gain insights into the latest developments in biotechnological therapies, including monoclonal antibodies that specifically inhibit inflammatory processes in the joint and gene therapies that aim to produce protective proteins directly in the affected joints. Regenerative approaches, such as the use of stem cells and growth factors to promote cartilage formation, are also explained in a practical and scientifically sound manner. In addition, the book highlights current trends in injection therapy, such as the use of hyaluronic acid derivatives, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and the role of botulinum toxin type A as a possible alternative to conventional pain therapy. It examines advances in the development of small molecule inhibitors that interfere with the signalling pathways of joint inflammation and discusses the promising effects of cannabinoid-based drugs. Using clear, easy-to-understand language, the reader is guided through the complex world of modern osteoarthritis treatment, always focussing on practical implementation in everyday clinical practice. The importance of preventative measures, diet and exercise are addressed, as are the challenges associated with the introduction of new therapies, including safety, efficacy and cost. This book shows: Osteoarthritis does not have to mean the end of freedom of movement - but can be the beginning of innovative ways to improve quality of life and mobility.Anmerkungen:
