When a charming mage is thrust into a life of servitude as the prince's royal companion, he discovers a tender heart underneath the brutal exterior, in this fantasy rom com debut for fans of Captive Prince and An Entanglement of Rival Wizards.

Lucien "Luc" Beaumont has traded his gambling coins for a soldier's uniform. Determined to turn over a new leaf, he's charmed his way to court as a battle-mage, a sorcerer sworn to protect his kingdom, Aurelia, from danger beyond its borders. But danger has also been brewing within Aurelia's palace walls. Prince Gawain---bastard child of the late princess, grandson to the long-dead king, and brutal war-blood---is unfit to rule, and the Prime Minister will do anything to keep the terrifying prince from the throne.

When Luc's reputation lands him in hot water, suddenly he's being blackmailed into servitude. Become Prince Gawain's royal companion, spying on him in the process, and his debts will be forgotten.

But as Luc grows closer to the prince, he discovers a tender heart, one that's been taken advantage of. And a secret that could change everything for the realm. If Luc hopes to save his kingdom, he'll have to gamble one last time: follow his heart and bet on the warrior he's come to love, or risk losing everything to the dangerous power being wielded from the shadows.
