Gary V Smith: 1 Chronicles, Gebunden

Klappentext

The Chronicler's question for every generation: How will you be remembered?

What kind of legacy will you leave? When those who come after you remember your life, what will they say? These questions lie at the heart of 1 Chronicles, and Gary V. Smith brings them into sharp focus in this addition to the Pillar Old Testament Commentary series.

Smith opens with a clear orientation to the book's historical context, structure, and genre and then works through the text verse by verse: the genealogical legacy of Israel, the reign of David, the construction of the temple, the preparations for Solomon's reign, and more. Modern readers may wonder what they can learn from people who lived thousands of years ago. Smith shows that the answer is: a great deal. The Chronicler recorded how ordinary people accomplished extraordinary things with God's help--charting a path later generations could follow, along with warnings they would do well to heed. The stories challenge present-day readers to examine their own lives in light of God's purposes.

Written for pastors, teachers, and seminary students, this volume pairs rigorous exegesis with pastoral insight--equipping readers to preach and teach 1 Chronicles with clarity and conviction, and to weigh the legacy of eternal value they are building today.
