Michael Donaghy was born in the Bronx, New York, in 1954. In 1985 he moved to London, where he spent the
rest of his life, writing, teaching and playing traditional Irish music. He died in 2004 at the age of fifty. Donaghy was the author of four volumes of poetry: Shibboleth (1988), Errata (1993), Conjure (2000), and Safest, which was published posthumously in 2005. His poetry received numerous awards, including the Geoffrey Faber and Forward prizes.
