Biografie
Caryl Phillips, 1958 auf der karibischen Insel Saint Kitts geboren, wuchs in England auf, studierte in Oxford englische Sprache und Literatur und lebt heute in New York City. Zurzeit hat er eine Professur an der Yale Universität inne. Phillips, der seit Anfang der 80er Jahre Belletristisches wie Sachbücher veröffentlicht, zählt zu den wichtigsten britischen Schriftstellern seiner Generation und wurde u.a. mit dem Commonwealth Writers Prize ausgezeichnet.
