Klappentext
The world of Felorn is reeling toward its end.
The proud merchant republic of Hakkon, once the richest power on the continent, has fallen. Betrayed from within, shattered from without, and devoured by hunger and war. What remains of it are burnt-out counting houses, deserted harbours and a nobility that still behaves as though it had something left to lose.
From its ruins rises the Imperium of Corinth. With iron order, authoritarian resolve and insatiable ambition it subjugates realm after realm. Old alliances break apart, kings and princes bend the knee, and every peace is paid for in blood. Those who submit are allowed to live. Those who hesitate become a warning to the rest.
Few dare to stand against the Imperium, foremost among them the elven peoples of Thyrennis. Between them and Corinth lies a brittle truce that both sides swear to in public and privately save for the day it breaks.
As the first pangs of a new war set in, two young heirs are sent into the Talsat Desert: Serena, daughter of the last Doge, raised in the shadow of a republic that no longer exists. And Alduril, an elf of Thyrennis, son of the legendary mage Altoras, bearing a name far larger than the one who carries it. Both are to find allies. Neither suspects how little their masters are thinking of them.
What begins as a diplomatic mission becomes a search for the truth behind the collapse, in a world where mistrust has long been the last shared currency. That Corinth rose to power over Hakkon's corpse is known to every child. How a republic of that size could fall so quickly is known to no one. And whoever finds the answer will understand who is next in line.
"Heirs of Decay" opens the dark fantasy series "Echoes of Felorn": a story about orders breaking apart, the price of power, and two heirs who must grow up between the fronts whether they want to or not.
For readers who enjoy political intrigue, morally layered characters and a world in which no one does the right thing unpunished.
