C. S. Lewis: Space Trilogy Hb, Kartoniert / Broschiert

Klappentext

Lewis's epic sci-fi fantasy adventure trilogy in a deluxe, two-volume edition, complete with the surviving chapters of an abandoned sequel, The Dark Tower. Includes a foreword compiled from letters by J. R.R. Tolkien and original publication notes by the late Walter Hooper.

Before the Chronicles of Narnia, C. S. Lewis's first major work of fiction was his adult Space Trilogy , comprising Out of the Silent Planet , Perelandra and That Hideous Strength. Conceived as a wider collaboration with J. R.R. Tolkien when they studied at Oxford together, the trilogy soon became Lewis's own passion project. In the books, the scientist Dr Ransom - a character who was loosely based on Tolkien himself - is abducted on a spaceship to the red planet Mars and then to the paradise world of Venus. The third much longer book is based on Earth, a dark fantasy involving a sinister society run by Ransom's old adversaries that culminates with the resurrection of Merlin from under Bragdon Wood.

This new collector's edition - with a first print run of just 2, 000 copies - is the perfect opportunity to investigate Lewis's often-forgotten science fiction. Bound in two volumes and housed in a slipcase, this printing also includes as a bonus the opening chapters of Lewis's abandoned sequel, The Dark Tower . Published posthumously in 1977 but since unavailable for many years, the seven chapters feature Dr Ransom and his university colleagues' invention of a chronoscope, a device that allows them to see through time and space into an infernal alternative dimension which starts to break through into the real world.
