Michael Phillips betrieb während seines Physik- und Mathematikstudiums einen kleinen Buchladen und entdeckte dabei seine Liebe zum Schreiben. Seitdem hat er zahlreiche Bücher verfasst. Er ist ausgewiesener Kenner der Schrift en von C. S. Lewis und George MacDonald. Er ist verheiratet, Vater von drei Kindern und lebt in Kalifornien.
