Arianna Del Gaudio: Corporate Climate Discourse across Global Divides, Gebunden

Klappentext

Climate Change Discourse across Global Divides investigates how food and beverage corporations in the Global North and the Global South represent, evaluate and respond to climate change, drawing on a large corpus of corporate texts.

Bringing together Corpus Linguistics, Critical Discourse Studies and the Appraisal Framework in a mixed-methods approach, this book illustrates the strategies companies use to shape public perceptions of climate change and environmental sustainability, showing how they carefully construct climate-related language to position themselves as responsible actors in the climate debate. The volume also provides an accessible account of corpus construction and analysis through the CRClim Corpus, combining corpus-driven and corpus-based methods with close qualitative interpretation. Del Gaudio explores patterns in climate-related language, including metaphor, modality, explicitness, emotion and opinion, and compares how corporate climate discourse varies across global contexts.

This monograph is a valuable resource for researchers, postgraduate students and advanced undergraduate in corpus linguistics, critical discourse studies, ecolinguistics, systemic functional linguistics, and climate change communication. It will also be of interest to scholars in environmental humanities, communication studies, business studies, corporate social responsibility, and sustainability studies.
