Alexis Lee'nese: But.. Mom I'm a Superhero, Kartoniert / Broschiert

Klappentext

Amir has a cape. And when he puts it on, he can save the whole world.

He can fly over buildings, race past airplanes, dodge invisible lasers, and rescue the whole block from fire breathing dragons. In Amir's world, there is always an adventure waiting and always somebody who needs a superhero. But one afternoon, while Amir is busy saving the day, someone sees something different.

When a man tells Amir he better not be causing trouble, Amir doesn't understand. He wasn't breaking anything. He wasn't bothering anybody. He was just playing. Amir returns home with his cape dragging behind him and a question his mother wishes he never had to ask:

"Then why did he think I was trouble?"

His mother knows there are things about the world that Amir is still too young to understand. And while she cannot control how the world may see her son, she can protect the way he sees himself. But Mom, I'm a Superhero is a tender and imaginative picture book about Black boyhood, childhood innocence, a mother's love, and the quiet ways parents help their children hold on to who they know themselves to be.

Through vibrant comic book inspired illustrations and Amir's larger than life imagination, this story opens the door for meaningful conversations about perception and bias while keeping its youngest readers rooted in something every child deserves:

the freedom to simply be a kid.

Because before the world decides who a Black boy is, he deserves the chance to discover that for himself.

And Amir? He still has a world to save.
