Biografie
Italo Calvino, geb. 1923 in Santiago de las Vegas/Kuba, wuchs in San Remo auf und kämpfte im Zweiten Weltkrieg als Partisan gegen die Deutschen. Nach seinem Studium der Agrarwissenschaften, Philosophie und Literatur war er einige Jahre als Lektor bei dem italienischen Verlag Einaudi beschäftigt. Danach lebte er als freier Schriftsteller in Rom, Paris und in Siena, wo er 1985 starb. Sein Werk wurde in alle Weltsprachen übersetzt und mit zahlreichen Literaturpreisen ausgezeichnet. Viele von Calvinos Büchern sind heute in Italien Volksgut und Schullektüre.
