Die wahrscheinlich legendärste Grateful-Dead-Show bekommt 2017 endlich ihr erstes offizielles Release.

»Cornell 5/8/77« ist der Mitschnitt ihres Konzertes vom 8. Mai 1977. Jerry Garcia, Donna Jean Godchaux, Keith Godchaux, Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh und Bob Weir spielten in der Barton Hall auf dem Campus der Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Für viele Fans gilt die Performance bis heute als absoluter Höhepunkt ihrer Karriere.

19 Songs haben es auf »Cornell 5/8/77« geschafft, darunter Klassiker wie »Dancing In The Street«, »Estimated Prophet«, »Fire On The Mountain« und viele mehr.

»Cornell 5/8/77« wurde live von Recording-Engineer Betty Cantor-Jackson mitgeschnitten. Die Master-Tapes galten lange Zeit als verschollen, tauchten aber schließlich wieder auf.

Und so ist es möglich, dass die Aufnahmen jetzt, passend zum 40. Jubiläum, auf insgesamt drei CDs bzw. 5 LPs erhältlich sind. Sie wurden zuvor von Plangent Processes restauriert und schließlich von Jeffrey Norman gemastert. Das Artwork der Boxen stammt vom Künstler und Grammy-Gewinner Masaki Koike.

Darauf haben Deadheads lange gewartet: Mit »Cornell 5/8/77« gibt es jetzt das erste offizielle Livealbum der legendären Show von The Grateful Dead.
