From town to town and port to port, The Via Collection aims to explain to the different musical fusions that happened between Cuban and African styles of Music, touched by candor, depth and Spontanity. There are many similarities between African and Cuban music, like the use of percussion, in the rhythms and dances (in the Congo in particular), and also in the vocal modulations. A trend emerged of reinterpreting these Cuban styles, but also Caribbean music, jazz and rhythm'n'blues. Towards the end of the 1940s, local orchestras in coastal towns like Saint-Louis, Dakar, Conakry, Abidjan, Cotonou, Porto Novo, Lagos, Douala and Luanda started playing by ear the Cuban sailors'78s heard on gramophones in the small cafes. Sounds, guajiras, boleros, pachangas ......
