„I’m insane I wanna love you“ singt Jessica Lea Mayfield auf der Vorabsingle „I Wanna Love You“ zum neuen Studioalbum „Make My Head Sing“. Ganze vier Jahre ließ sich die junge Musikerin aus Kent, Ohio Zeit, um die neuen Songs fertig zu stellen. Dabei stand ihr vor allem Ehemann, Bassist und Produzent Jesse Newport zur Seite.
Das Album, das im Club Roar Studio in Nashville aufgenommen wurde, ist kraftvoller und rockiger als vergangene Veröffentlichungen wie beispielsweise „Tell Me“, das noch von Dan Auerbach (The Black Keys) produziert wurde. Grunge und Rock sind auf „Make My Head Sing“ die tragenden Elemente.
„The whole record is just me and Jesse and my drummer Matt Martin. I think a lot of my favorite bands are guitar, bass and drums. I wanted to simplify things. Bands are so big these days, I wanted to get in the studio and make a rock record and hear real guitar tones and something heavy.“
