,,1951 in Riga geboren und in Moskau ausgebildet, verbindet Grubert eine besondere Tiefe der musikalischen Interpretation mit intelligenten neuen Ideen, die Standardwerken wie den Symphonischen Etüden op. 13 und der Fantasie op. 77 ganz ungewohnte Seiten abgewinnen. Dabei ist sein Stil stets fein, im energischen zweiten Fantasie-Satz übertreibt er nicht, sondern kontrolliert die Dynamik streng. Auch die Tempi sind mäßig bis besonnen, ohne dass etwa dem lebendigen Scherzo der vierten Variation in den Symphonischen Etüden der Schwung fehlt." (Piano News, Januar / Februar 2012)

FonoForum 02/12: "Die vielgestaltigen Charaktere der Fantasie profiliert Grubert farbenreich und mit viel Liebe zum Detail, dennoch verliert der Lette nicht den Überblick, die große Linie bleibt stets gewahrt. Auch in den "Symphonischen Etüden" überzeugt sein Spiel. Dynamisch exzellent ausbalanciert intoniert er das Thema, mit elfenhafter Leichtigkeit nimmt er die Variation Nr. 5, und kraftvoll-orchestral mit lebensbejahender Freude stürzt er sich ins Finale."
